Congestion in Mangaldan market addressed

THE Mangaldan Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) started repainting on December 17 the stall demarcation lines at the town’s public market to ensure proper spacing for vendors and maintain clear pathways for shoppers.

According to Assistant POSO Chief Gerardo Ydia, there was an overflow of vendors beyond their designated spaces, contributing to congestion among shoppers and vehicles delivering goods.

In addition, POSO is strictly enforcing the ban of motorcycles, pedicabs, and tricycles from traversing the market, except for those making deliveries.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Market Supervisor, in collaboration with POSO, is looking into the use of trolleys or pushcarts as an alternative method for transporting products within the public market.

The repainting initiative was undertaken by POSO staff and members of the Anti-Colorum Task Force, organized by Mayor Bona Parayno, which comprises 35 presidents of the local Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA).

The group began the repainting at stalls located on Frianeza Street and will continue through the vegetable and dry goods sections. The project is expected to be finished before the holiday rush on December 24. (Ahikam Pasion)
