Pangasinan ranks 14th richest province

WITH assets totaling P18.36 billion, Pangasinan ranked as the 14th richest among 82 provinces in the country in 2023, based on the Commission on Audit’s Annual Financial Report on Local Government Units for last year.

The province also placed 7th in terms of gross domestic product (GDP) share, contributing 1.8% to the national total.

In the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing (AFF) sectors, Pangasinan contributed 3.8% to the national total, placing 3rd overall.

During the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) Dissemination Forum held last December 11, Edgar Norberte of the PSA Provincial Statistical Office, presented the 2023 Economic Performance of Pangasinan.

In his report, he highlighted that the economy of Pangasinan in 2023 grew by 6.3% from its level in 2022. This represents an increase in the value of GDP from P352.90 billion in 2022 to P375.31 billion in 2023.

Through the PPA, the GDP of provinces and highly-urbanized cities are compiled, which can be used in strengthening local-level planning and policy making.

Meanwhile, Engr. Rowena Ignacio, OIC at the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), discussed the vision and mission of the province affirming in more than two years under the guidance of Gov. Ramon Guico III, the province has recorded economic growth.

During the forum, the town of Bolinao received a certificate of recognition for its exemplary and outstanding compliance in providing comprehensive data for the compilation of the 2021-2023 PPA of Pangasinan.

The forum was participated in by representatives of some national agencies, various government line agencies, academe, and LGUs, among others.

Cebu maintained its position as the richest province with assets worth P309.897 billion. The 13 other provinces that ranked higher than Pangasinan are: Rizal, P39.71B; Camarines Sur, P33.522B; Batangas, P32.522B; Davao de Oro, P23.379B; Cavite, P22.989B; Ilocos Sur, P21.951B; Bukidnon, P21.643B; Negros Occidental, P21.068B; Pampanga, P20.778B; Iloilo, P20.75B; Isabela, P18.67B; and Leyte, P18.667B.
