Bayambangueño, 3rd placer in Civil Engineer exam honored
A Bayambangueño, a graduate of the Pangasinan State University (PSU), made his family, school, and hometown proud by ranking third in the 2024 Civil Engineers Licensure Examination.
Engr. Bernard Bonin Flores, who scored an impressive 92.25% in the exam, was honored with a plaque of recognition by local officials for his hard work and dedication to his studies during the local government’s Monday flag-raising event on December 9 at the Balon Bayambang Events Center.
During the ceremony, Flores gave an emotional acceptance speech, expressing deep gratitude for the support of his family, educators, and the local government. He thanked his father, Bonicfacio Flores, as well as the teachers at St. Vincent Catholic School and PSU-Urdaneta for inspiring him to reach for the top.
Reflecting on his personal journey, he shared how his life circumstances fueled his desire to succeed. “Isa sa naging fuel ko to motivate and inspire myself is yung kalagayan sa buhay. Iba talaga ang gigil ng gustong mag-survive sa buhay. You will grip harder until you reach yung pangarap mo,” he said.
Flores also recounted his transformation from an indifferent student to a dedicated one, motivated by the harsh realities of life and the push of his schools, saying, “My two alma maters molded me from a ‘Bahala-na-si-Batman’ type of student to an ‘I-want-to-become-a-topnotcher’ kind of student.”
PSU President Dr. Elbert Galas, in a statement, congratulated Flores and praised his commitment to excellence.
In a light-hearted moment, Flores humorously remarked, “I didn’t graduate with Latin Honors, so I topped the boards instead. Thank you, PSU!”
Mayor Niña Jose-Quiambao of Bayambang also expressed the town’s pride in Flores’ success.
The Professional Regulation Commission conducted the November-December 2024 Civil Engineers Licensure Examination, where 6,835 candidates passed out of 18,436 examinees. (Eva Visperas)
