THE Police Regional Office 1 recognized the bravery of P/Master Sergeant Heribert Plares of the Binalonan Municipal Police Station, who was injured in the line of duty during a pursuit operation of armed robbery suspects last week.

Plares was awarded the ‘Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting’ (Medal of the Wounded Hero) by P/Brigadier General Lou Evangelista, regional director, during a hospital visit on Wednesday afternoon, December 4.

During the pursuit, he encountered one of the suspects who stabbed him three times. He managed to return fire, leading to the suspect’s death.

Evangelista commended the wounded cop for his skill, dedication, and selfless commitment, and called on all police officers to enhance their presence in the community to prevent similar incidents of theft at convenience stores, emphasizing the importance of crime prevention over reactive measures.

He also appealed to the public for assistance in combating criminality, and recommended the use of e-buzzers in barangays and schools to deter crime and expedite police response times. (Ahikam Pasion)
