Dagupan fiesta starts Dec. 6
THE start of the Dagupan City Fiesta celebration and ceremonial switching of Christmas lights on will be held late afternoon of December 6, 2024.
Councilor and Liga ng mga Barangay president Marcelino Fernandez, who was designated by Mayor Belen Fernandez anew as the Hermano Mayor of this year’s fiesta, announced during the flag-raising ceremony program on November 25 that the city’s employees’ night is set for December 21 at the city plaza.
The traditional Christmas lights at the Quintos Bridge, Magsaysay Bridge, and the city plaza were supposed to be installed last week but Mayor Fernandez postponed it at a later date given potential weather disturbances that might cause damage.
Installation of the giant Christmas Tree in front of the Dagupan City Museum on A.B. Fernandez Avenue is ongoing.
The Christmas Bazaar or Baratillo along Galvan Street as well as the Food Strip along Zamora Street, both streets are to be closed until late February 2025 based on an ordinance passed on November 12 by the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
The mayor told newsmen before she left for Milpitas, USA on a working trip that the Paseo de Belen along the JdV Expressway Extensions will not be held this year. Instead, there will be a competition for the best nativity scene in the different barangays, to be judged based on artistry, and indigenous materials used.
The carnival with rides and games will still be held at its traditional site along JdV Expressway Extension in Lucao. (Leonardo Micua)
