MORE than half of the 3,153 vehicular accidents recorded in the Ilocos Region from January to September this year occurred within Pangasinan, according to data from the Department of Health (DOH) Region 1.

DOH Regional Director Dr. Paula Paz Sydiongco said Pangasinan accounted for 57% with 1,789 road incidents, followed by La Union with 766, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte had 395 and 203, respectively.

At the agency’s observance of World Remembrance Day for Road Traffic Incidents, held in Urdaneta City on November 16, she emphasized the continued efforts of DOH Region 1 to enhance their services for accident victims.

Among the initiatives being undertaken are Basic Life Support Training, development of trauma centers, improvements to the referral system, and the provision of First Aid Training and proper patient handling.

These measures aim to strengthen the region’s response to road traffic incidents and improve the overall safety of roadways. (Ahikam Pasion)
