GALVAN-ZAMORA STREETS CLOSED UNTIL FEB. 22

GALVAN and Zamora Streets in Dagupan will be closed to vehicular traffic for three months to give way to the Christmas Baratillo and food strip, respectively, from November 22 until February 22 next year in line with the City Fiesta celebration.

The closure is provided under Ordinance No. 2300-2024 passed by the new majority in the Sangguniang Panlungsod during its November 12 regular session.

According to the ordinance, proposed on motion of Liga ng mga Barangay President, Councilor Marcelino Fernandez, the street market provides a livelihood venue for dry goods vendors and food sellers and a leisure area for residents and visitors.

Fernandez said keeping the area a pedestrian-only zone will help ensure public safety, order and convenience.

The ordinance was passed by Fernandez, Councilors Jeslito Seen, Dennis Canto, Bradley Benavidez and Acting Majority Floor Leader Michael Fernandez.

Opposition Councilors Librada Reyna, Celia Lim, Marilou Fernandez and Alvin Coquia were no longer at the session hall when the ordinance was taken up. (Leonardo Micua)
