Anda para-athlete wins 3 gold in national games
THIRTY-nine-year-old Jefryl Carilla of Anda displayed his prowess in athletics when he bagged three gold medals in the 8th Philippine National Para Games last November 12 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The National Para Games returned after a five-year hiatus, with around 900 athletes from 72 different cities and municipalities competing and vying for a slot in the Philippine Paralympic Team.
Carilla put on an exceptional performance and triumphed in three athletics events: javelin, shot put, and discuss throw under F46 and F47 Category.
Athletes in the F46 sports class have their arms or hands affected by impairments, such as above and below elbow amputations.
A resident of barangay Mal-ong in Anda, Carilla faced a major challenge heading to the nationals.
“It was quite difficult because I just left the hospital five days before the official game due to a serious illness. Emotions were running high during that time, but I leaned on my family’s unconditional support as well as the help of my community and the provincial government, and eventually, all my hardships paid off,” he said.
