3 San Carlos para-athletes shine in swimming, athletics
THREE para-athletes from the Schools Division Office of San Carlos City bagged two gold and one silver medals during the 8th Philippine National Para Games held November 12 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila and PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
Nineteen-year-old Jacquiline Castro of Pangalangan National High School ruled the 100-meter Girls Secondary Freestyle Swimming to seize the gold podium finish.
Leizel Parizal, 17, from Agdao Integrated School showcased her strength in 100-meter run Girls Para Athletics under T20 Category (Intellectual Disability) to clinch the gold medal.
Meanwhile, 17-year-old Jolly Poquiz of Coliling National high School bagged a silver in the 100-meter run Boys Para Athletics T20 Category.
A newcomer to the nationals, Castro said that her experience in provincial and regional tilts helped her succeed at the big stage.
“I was nervous at first, but I relied on the lessons and techniques I’ve learned in the regional meet and it really helped me to focus and perform at my best,” she said.
The San Carlos para-athletes will further hone their skills as they were selected as members of the training pool for the National Para Athletics and Swimming Teams. (Kim Gealogo)
