Dagupan named best in regional literacy programs
DAGUPAN City was adjudged the regional winner of the 2024 National Literacy Awards (NLA) by the Department of Education, and the Literacy Coordinating Council (LCC) under the Independent Component City category.
Mayor Belen Fernandez, who received the award from City Schools Division Officer Rosena Banzon at the Dagupan City Hall, said as champion in Region 1, the city will be one of the national finalists for the Gawad Liyab Search for Outstanding Local Government Unit.
The NLA honors local governments, non-government organizations and individuals for excellence in literacy programs, projects, and initiatives.
Dagupan’s regional award was in recognition of its literacy programs such as the Unaen su Educasyon Program, scholarships, school infrastructure projects, Manlingkor ya Kalangweran Youth Leadership Training Program, and information campaign on disaster preparedness, among others.
Fernandez thanked Director Aquino, Education Program Supervisor Antonio V. Celeste and Johnson Sunga, Chief Education Program Supervisor Arlene Niro, DepEd Dagupan Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Rowena Banzon, Edwin Ferer, Public Schools District Supervisor/Division ALS Focal Person for the award.
The mayor said the regional award was made possible with the help of all department heads and barangay chairmen of Dagupan. (Leonardo Micua)
