Transport operators mull fare hike

PUBLIC transportation operators in Pangasinan are considering filing for a fare increase as they voiced frustration over the nearly three-peso-per-liter hike in fuel prices on Tuesday, October 15.

In an interview, Bernard Tuliao, president of the One Pangasinan Transport Federation, described the fuel price hike as a significant blow to their ranks.

“It’s painful,” he said, emphasizing that their earnings are already meager due to ongoing road construction projects, and an increase in their fuel cost exacerbates their financial challenges.

He called for better regulation of fuel prices to mitigate the impact on transport operators.

“If it were regulated,” he explained, “we could control the fluctuations in crude oil prices.”

Despite their concerns, the transport sector leader also acknowledged the need for a thorough assessment before requesting a fare adjustment that will affect commuters. (Ahikam Pasion)
