TIGHT FIGHTS IN 2ND, 5TH, 6TH DISTRICTS

FIRST District Rep. Arthur Celeste is running for reelection unopposed while 3rd District Rep. Rachel Arenas and come-backing 4th District Rep. Gina de Venecia are facing what could be considered lightweight opponents in the May 2025 elections.

Practically in for another term, Celeste is the father of incumbent Alaminos City Mayor Arth Bryan Celeste who is also running for reelection while another son, Arthur Celeste Jr., is battling for mayor of Sual town against incumbent Mayor Liseldo Calugay.

The elder Celeste will further fortify his political hold of the district if his two sons win, and in addition, one of his brothers is also seeking reelection for mayor of their native Bolinao town.

Arenas, meanwhile, is being challenged by former Rep. Leopoldo Tulagan Sr., who reportedly took the place of just retired P/Major General Romeo Caramat who was earlier rumored to be eyeing the position.

Former Rep. De Venecia will be up against former Dagupan City Vice Mayor Alvin Fernandez, son of the late Dagupan Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr.

Fernandez previously ran twice — and lost on both occasions — against current Rep. Christopher de Venecia, son of Gina and former House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr.

On the other hand, a battle royale is impending in the 2nd District between incumbent Rep. Mark Cojuangco and Lingayen Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil, who had previously held the congressional seat for three terms.

Rep. Marlyn Agabas of the 6th District is facing a serious challenge from Gilbert Estrella, son of Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III.

In the 5th District, Rep. Ramon Guico Jr., father of Governor Ramon Guico III, will be facing Urdaneta City’s number one councilor, Franco del Prado — a battle to watch considering that his daughter-in-law, Maan Tuazon-Guico, wife of the governor, is running for mayor of Urdaneta. (Leonardo Micua)
