Mayor Bataoil vs Rep. Cojuangco in 2nd District
REP. ARENAS VS. CARAMAT IN 3RD DISTRICT
LINGAYEN Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil filed his Certificate of Candidacy (CoC) for congressman of the Second District of Pangasinan, all by himself and without fanfare, at the Provincial Elections Office at the Dagupan City Astrodome at 8:00 a.m. on October 4.
He is running for congressman under the Alyansang Pangasinan at Ilokano whose chair and founder is former Governor Amado Espino Jr., also a former congressman of the Fifth District.
Bataoi’s opponent, re-electionist Rep. Mark Cojuangco of the Nationalist People’s Coalition, has yet to file his CoC.
The only other incumbent who also has yet to file her CoC is Third District Rep. Rachel Arenas. Her potential opponent would be PNP Major General Romeo Caramat, who just retired from the service last October 2 after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.
Meanwhile, others expected to file a CoC include former Congresswoman Gina de Venecia, who will be vying for the post to be vacated by her son, Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia.
Former Dagupan City Mayor Brian Lim, earlier reported to oppose De Venecia is again considering to stage a return bout with Mayor Belen Fernandez.
Atty. Raul Lambino might file his CoC for congressman against De Venecia.
Those who already filed their respective CoCs are: Rep. Ramon Guico Jr. of the fifth district, who might likely be opposed by Councilor Franco del Prado of Urdaneta City; Rep. Arthur Celeste of the first district, who will likely run unopposed; and Rep. Marlyn Primicias-Agabas of the sixth district, who will be opposed by Gilbert Estrella, son of Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrad Estrella. (Leonardo Micua)
