Pantal residents warned vs fake solicitation

THE Barangay Council of Pantal in Dagupan City warned residents against certain individuals going around and soliciting money from households using letters purportedly signed by the barangay chair.

Overcharging tricycle drivers in Dagupan slammed anew

COMMUTERS, especially students, again complained about the exorbitant fares being charged by abusive tricycle drivers plying Dagupan City, particularly when people are forced to take a tricycle even for short distances in areas where there is flooding.

They asked the local government to mandate the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) to crack down on erring tricycle drivers who are not following the supposed set fees under a city ordinance. (Mathew Pacheco)

Pangasinan remains ASF-free — SINAG 

PANGASINAN continues to remain free from the African Swine Fever (ASF) despite reported infections in hog farms in neighboring provinces, according to Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) chairman Rosendo So, noting the tight 24/7 watch at border checkpoints.

SINAG assured stable supply of pork in the province during the coming Christmas season as it reported a recent slight drop in prices from P330/kilo to P320/kilo. (Mathew Pacheco)

Vendors, bangus growers receive financial help from DSWD 

VENDORS and bangus growers in Dagupan City recently received financial assistance of P15,000 each under the Sustainable Livelihood Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The money is intended to be used by the beneficiaries as added capital for their economic activities to improve income as well as boost the bangus industry. (Joana de Vera)

Rains blamed for short supply of bangus in markets 

THE supply of bangus in the market is getting scanty because of the continuous rains in recent weeks. Vendors said due to short supply, price has recently gone up to P160/kilo from P140/kilo at the Magsaysay Fish Market in Dagupan City.

Man wounded by criminals riding in tandem in Urdaneta 

CRIMINALS riding in tandem struck anew in Urdaneta City, wounding a 24-year-old man while he was talking with a friend in front of their house.  Police investigation showed that two men riding on a motorcycle suddenly appeared and shot the victim in different parts of his body.

The victim is now recuperating in an undisclosed hospital while a dragnet operation was conducted by the police for the arrest of the gunmen. Motive of the shooting remains unknown. (Jam Victorio)

Couple shot by armed motorcycle rider 

A man and his wife were hospitalized when a lone gunman opened fire on them while they were on board a motorcycle, together with their one-year old child in Barangay Caingal, San Carlos City.

The woman sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of her body while her husband sustained only abrasions. Their child was unscathed. The San Carlos City police have launched an intensive manhunt for the suspect. (Ella Garcia)

Drunk man drowns in Pantal River 

A cadaver of a man was found floating along the Pantal River in Dagupan City recently. The police said that personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard found the body while they were patrolling.

A 38-year old cousin of the dead man came forward and identified the victim who, he said, drowned when he dived into the river while under the influence of alcohol. (Jam Victorio)

New cattle rustling upsurge in Pangasinan reported 

RESIDENTS of Urbiztondo expressed alarm over the reported rampant stealing of pasture animals in the town by still unidentified cattle rustlers.

They reported to the police that their carabaos, cows and goats left in the fields to forage for grass have disappeared and believed herded by unidentified cattle rustlers who seemed to have returned to Urbiztobdo and various parts of Pangasinan. (Jam Victorio)

PDEA drug search in provincial jail turns out negative

USING a sensitive investigative instrument and a K-9 dog, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted a greyhound operation at the Pangasinan Provincial Jail in Lingayen to check for illegal drugs inside the facility, but none was found.

Alongside the operation, PDEA also conducted Drug Abuse Prevention Education for 270 persons deprived of liberty, including personnel of the provincial jail. (Jam Victorio)

Farmers trained on how to increase vegetable production 

MEMBERS of the United Patalan Integrated Farmers Association in Tayug underwent training on methodologies on how to increase vegetable production during a training program given by technicians of the Department of Agriculture Region 1.

The training focused on sharing valuable information on urban agriculture gardening and the control of common pest and diseases in vegetables for them to ensure higher harvest and of course income. (Joana de Vera)

Modern MDRRMC command center to rise in Mapandan

THE construction of the command center of the Mapandan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office is set to begin soon following a groundbreaking ceremony held earlier this September.

DOLE notes rampant violation of minimum wage law 

THE Department of Labor and Employment in Region 1 urged workers to file formal charges after receiving numerous complaints on employers playing below the minimum wage.

Simultaneous clean-up drive in San Carlos City ongoing 

A city-wide Simultaneous Clean up Drive is ongoing in San Carlos City in a bid to make the city clean and free from mosquitoes that can cause both dengue and malaria.

The activity was initiated by the City Health Office, noting that cases of dengue have been steadily rising in the city.  The CHO also mobilized several teams to conduct misting operations on stagnant waters and known breeding places of mosquitoes in different barangays. (Jam Victorio)
