THE Department of Health Center for Health Development (DOH CHD) in Region 1 expressed growing concern over the rising cases of leptospirosis in the region.

Dr. Rhuel Bobis, DOH CHD1 medical officer, emphasized that the rainy season has only just begun, and already reported leptospirosis cases have been increasing.

CHD-1 confirmed 98 leptospirosis cases and thirteen deaths already reported from January to August.

Health authorities are maintaining closer surveillance to address the leptospirosis situation while distributing medications to combat leptospirosis in usually flooded towns and cities Region 1.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection transmitted through contact with contaminated water or soil, often associated with flooding during heavy rains.

“Vigilance and preventive measures are crucial during this period to safeguard public health”, he said. (Ahikam Pasion)
