MORE RAIN EXPECTED

RAIN will continue to pour in the coming weeks, according to the weather bureau’s forecast, as damage from Tropical Storm Enteng and the southwest monsoon was initially estimated at over P9 million based on a report by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO).

The damage cost as of September 5 includes the impact on agriculture, livestock, and infrastructure.

According to PDRRM Officer Rhodyn Oro, the storm caused partial damage amounting to P8 million in agriculture, P486,000 in livestock, and P1 million in infrastructure.

As of 8:00 a.m. Thursday, the San Roque Dam’s water level was at 255.20 meters above sea level (masl), with no gate openings. The spilling level is 280 masl.

Affected families reached 560, and 1,530 persons were accommodated in and out of evacuation centers.

Meanwhile, Gener Quitlong from the Agno River Basin Flood Forecasting and Warning Center of weather bureau PAGASA, said Enteng will continue to influence the southwest monsoon even if it is already out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Weather conditions are expected to improve once Enteng makes landfall in Hanoi, Vietnam. By weekend, Pangasinan will be back to experiencing scattered thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon or evening.

At the same time, PAGASA is monitoring potential storms forming outside the PAR between September 4 and 10 as well as from September 11 to 17, both of which can intensify the monsoon rains.

“Although these systems are currently distant from the Philippines, it’s essential for the public to remain prepared for further rain and to continually monitor weather updates,” he said. (Eva Visperas/Ahikam Pasion)
