SINOCALAN RIVER IN IN CRITICAL LEVEL

RESIDENTS along the banks of the Sinocalan River were called upon to be on alert as its water level has already reached the critical level of 6.20 meters above sea level as of 12:00 noon of August 30 as monsoon rains continue to pour upstream.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Sta. Barbara said the normal water level of the Sinocalan River is 6.00 masl.

At 6.20 masl as of noon of August 30 and is still rising, it will only need 0.8 meter more before the river’s water level will reach the critical level of 7.0 masl.

Residents near the banks of the Sinocalan River in Sta. Barbara and all the way to Dagupan were advised to constantly monitor the level of water which could rise fast as the rains are continuing upstream.

Mayor Belen Fernandez, together with City Engineer Josephine Corpuz, inspected areas in Dagupan City still affected by high tide where she announced that the Department of Public Works and  Highways through Regional Director Ronnel Tan promised to rehabilitate silted creeks to minimize the flood.

The Sinocalan River flows down to the Marusay River in Calasiao and to the Pantal River in Dagupan City before it exits to the Lingayen Gulf.

The fountain head of the Sinocalan River is located at Mount Ampucao in Tuba, Benguet and flows down to San Manuel, Binalonan, Urdaneta, then to Sta. Barbara.

Due to sporadic rains triggered by the southwest monsoon, combined with high tide, some low-lying areas on both banks of the Pantal River are still under water. (Leonardo Micua)
