AN official of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority died in a vehicular accident involving his convoy of two motorcycles and two SUVs along the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) in Barangay Panaga, Laoac on August 20.

Fatality was Ernie Tablega, an officer of the MMDA assigned with the Presidential Security Group, while Police Chief Master Sergeant Noel Marga, a PSG presonnel; was injured. Both were riding their motorcycles.

The convoy was traveling northbound when Tablega, who was riding a 650 cc motorcycle, reportedly lost control of the steering handle while cruising at 100 kph, caused his motorcycle to spin 180 degrees counterclockwise, forcing Tablega to jump off and slide on the road.

Tablega’s motorcycle hit Marga’s motorcycle, who then lost control and fell onto the road.

A third vehicle, a white SUV Police Mobile driven by Police Executive Master Sergeant Melvin Ragonto, 44, attempted to avoid the two motorcycles but was struck behind by a tailing SUV driven by Technical Sergeant Reynante Castillo, a member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Tablega was rushed to Urdaneta City District Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Marga, who sustained injuries, was brought to Urdaneta City Sacred Heart Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

All four are assigned to the Presidential Security Command in Malacañang. (Eva Visperas)
