Fire guts San Carlos old public market

A FIRE ravaged the old public market in San Carlos City early Thursday morning, affecting 400 vendors who occupy about 90% of the total stalls.

Mayor Julier ‘Ayoy’ Resuello assured immediate assistance to the stall owners as he belied rumors over social media that the fire was intentional to give way to a development project.

“No sensible mayor would intentionally burn down a market where many people earn their livelihood,” said Resuello, who rushed back home from Manila where he was attending the Local Government Summit.

Investigation is ongoing on the cause of the incident, which the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) estimates to have started around 5:30 a.m., though bystanders said it was earlier.

The blaze reached the fourth alarm, which under the BFP alert level means about 16 fire trucks are required and was declared fire out at past 9 in the morning. (Ahikam Pasion)
