Iwata, Dagupan cities renew sisterhood pact

A delegation from Iwata in Japan led by Mayor  Hiroaki Kosachi  was in Dagupan last week for a goodwill visit  pdeparatory to the renewal of the the sisterhood pact between cities of Iwata and Dagupan signed in 1975 during the administration of the late Mayor Cipriano Manaois.

The Dagupan City government led by Mayor Belen Fernandez and other city officials, and members of the academe and the business community welcomed Kosachi  and his delegation.

Members of Iwata delegation were Horikawa Tomohino, president of Shizouka Sangyo University; Suzuki Takahiro, section chief of the Industrial Policy Division; Ohishi Shokei, section chief of the Economy and Tourism Division; Higashi Naomi, assistant manager of the Educational Affairs Division; and Saki Murumatsu, staff of the Assistant Manager of the Admission Division of Shizouka Sangyu University.

Officials from both cities exchanged views on possible student exchanges and collaboration with the city’s academe sector led by the University of Luzon led by Dr. Luis Samson Jr. and Aurora Samson-Reyna, Cathy Verzola of Universidad de Dagupan; and officials of Ednas School, St. Albert the Great, Divine Word Academy of Dagupan, and St. John Cathedral School.

The visit included a trip to the Dagupan City National High School, Universidad de Dagupan, North Central Elementary School, Philippine-Japan Friendship Garden at Tondaligan Park and lunch at the CSI Stadia where they interacted with members of the educational community, and parents and students, a short boat ride along the Pantal and Calmay Rivers; and a briefing on the Dagupan bangus industry.

Fernandez said they also explored the possibility of bringing Dagupan students to study in Iwata City, which could lead to the establishment of an Institute of Sports, a study on physical education, and sports science in Dagupan.

The late Mayor Manaois initiated the Dagupan-Iwata Cities sisterhood agreement on February 19, 1975, at Vicar Hotel Skyroom in Dagupan City attended by members of the education and business sectors in the city. (Leonardo Micua)
