Perez Boulevard set for elevation
LAST PHASE OF FLOOD MITIGATION
THE elevation of Perez Boulevard and its drainage system, covering the segment from Nazareth General Hospital to YMCA, is expected to start soon, completing the flood mitigation project for the three most flood-prone areas in Dagupan City.
Mayor Belen Fernandez met with Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Director Rommel Tan at his office in San Fernando City, La Union last week to finalize the project rollout and other national government projects in Dagupan after the final coordination with City Engineer Josephine de la Cruz and Engr. Chriselda Nicer of DPWH.
The main points agreed upon is to adopt the measurement made by the city engineer’s office as to the height of the soon-to-be elevated road and DPWH’s plan for floodwaters along the stretch to exit at the drainage outflow to Pantal River, passing in front of Nazareth Hospital.
Fernandez said owners of business establishments as well residential houses along the segment have already been consulted.
The Public Order and Safety Office is now preparing a traffic plan that will be put into effect once the work starts.
The elevation of the flood-prone intersection of A.B. Fernandez Avenue, Arellano Street and M.H. Del Pilar Street were already done, these areas were spared from flooding during the onslaught of Typhoon Carina in late July.
Fernandez said the DPWH also agreed to elevate various secondary roads and install drainage systems around the city. (Leonardo Micua)
