Superior 86 Basketball League kicks off in San Carlos City
THE inaugural Larong Norte’s Superior 86 Basketball League reeled off at the San Carlos City Gymnasium on July 28 with eight cage teams playing under a single round-robin format.
In the league’s game opener, Team Hangover outscored the Hustlers, 113-94, while Team Just Ice rolled past Team Disasterpiece in the nightcap, 97-90.
Organized by Larong Norte, the name S86 Basketball refers to the 86 barangays of the city. The league began with a weekly 5-versus-5 Streetball Tournament, where only exclusive members can play until a plethora of people took notice and joined the growing cagefest.
S86 Basketball’s aim is to give exposure to promising athletes who can compete in amateur tournaments by using livestats system wherein all of the information, logs, and statistics of the players and teams can be monitored as utilized by professional athletes.
Jericho Cachero, founder of the league, said that the league serves as an opportunity for athletes who can not afford tryouts and the luxury of traveling to distant places to compete. (Kim Gealogo)
