DCNHS students’ inventions win 4 gold, silver medals

YOUNG scientists, all students of the Dagupan City National High School enrolled in Science, Technology and Engineering (STE) program, brought home four gold and one silver medals in the recently concluded World Youth  STEM Invention Innovation (WYSII) 2004 held July 6 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

They entered and presented their innovative inventions and researches in different science, technology and engineering fields that competed with more than 1,500 projects of young inventors from all over the world.

They presented their medals to Mayor Belen Fernandez at the Dagupan City Hall last Wednesday, July 17 during their courtesy call.

The gold medalists and projects were:

  1. Charis Mea Montoya and Precious Acela Rosal (Coach Ms. Lora Thana Santiago)-Project: CarboRadar in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence;
  2. Mark Paul Elijah Taguinay, George Christensen Baligod and Ruel Andrei Parayno (Coach: Mrs. Glaiza Gutierrez) Project: IWAS (Inland Water Alert System)-Monitoring of Flood Water Levels in School Campuses also under the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence;
  3. Mariel de Vera, Chloe Valerie Decano and Faith Lavine Masaoy (Coach: Mrs. Alyssa Mae Seco)-Project: The Green Algae-based Biofilter under Environmental Science; and,
  4. Rinoa Kierstyn Radovan, Arrianne May Arguelles and Aldrey de Vera (Coach: Darryl Calimlim)-Project AquaCleanse, also under Environmental Science;

The silver medal was won by Anuelka Dane Katigbak and Hanna Trisha Episcope (Coach: Ms. Lora Thana Santiago)-Project: Inflow, also under Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Mayor Fernandez commended the students for their feats and expressed hope their researches and inventions can be applied in the city to alleviate the lives of Dagupenos. (Leonardo Micua)
