Pangasinan trounces Misamis Oriental, 69-43, in Pilipinas Super League
THE Luzon-representative Pangasinan U18 basketball team outscored Mindanao’s Misamis Oriental in their debut match, 69-43, in the national finals of the Pilipinas Super League (PSL) Born 2006 Category last July 8 at the Victoria Sports Tower in Quezon City.
The U18 Category tournament is consisted of seven teams that will contend for the national title in a single-elimination format.
During the opening period, Pangasinan’s Jheremy Godoy showcased his scoring brilliance and exploded for 11 early points.
Misamis Oriental’s Joshua Oro replied with his four points off-the-baseline layups combined with the team’s 8-point output in the free-throw line to garner a slim cushion, 18-16.
Jann Domingo stepped up big to propel Pangasinan’s scoring surge in the second frame with seven points to capture the lead in the halftime, 35-27.
Coasting in the second half, Misamis Oriental’s Joseph Dumdum Jr. tried to outmatch Pangasinan’s Domingo-Godoy tandem with his 7-point burst, but his efforts were in vain when Jann Domingo erupted with 12 points and buried back-to-back triples along with two transition layups.
Godoy joined Pangasinan’s scoring run with 10 points in the final period to drift away with a 26-point advantage.
Godoy scattered 24 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals while Domingo added 26 markers to notch Pangasinan’s first win in the Nationals.
For Misamis Oriental, no player was able to post double figures as Dumdum led the Mindanaoans with nine points.
