Parents rush to supply stores as classes approach
THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is closely monitoring stores selling school materials on noting that parents started the rush to prepare for their children’s return to classes on Monday, July 29 to take advantage of the currently low prices for essential school items.
DTI Provincial Director Natalie Dalaten reported a slight increase in the prices of some school supplies, primarily due to transportation costs and the rising price of gasoline and advised parents to compare prices initially before deciding on what and where to buy.
Emily De Sola, a mother of two kids incoming Grade 3 and Grade 4, said some supply stores are already offering discounts and sales.
While there has been a 24% increase in the prices of certain school items, the overall price stability remains satisfactory.
“Many options are available that offer the same quality without straining the budget”, she said.
The DTI has not identified any substandard school supplies being sold in the market. Parents can rest assured that the products available meet acceptable quality standards. (Ahikam Pasion)
