MBTF: “I’m seeking reelection, not a congressional post”
MAYOR Belen Fernandez belied rumors being spread by her detractors that she’s running for Congress in the 2025 mid-term election.
” I’m running for reelection. in fact, I can’t wait till October to file my certificate of candidacy,” Fernandez said, briefly departing from her State of the City Address at CSI Stadia.
She told her audience her candidate for 4th District is Manay Gina de Venecia, mother of incumbent Fourth District Congressman Christopher de Venecia.
“Together, me and Manay Gina can make Dagupan better, stronger and more dynamic city, she quipped.
Fernandez dismissed the rumor spread by the faction of former Mayor Brian Lim as a desperate move to draw a wedge between her and the family of former Speaker Jose de Venecia, Jr.
“It only shows that the opposition in the city is getting jittery if not panicking over its impending mass defeat and will likely put up only token candidates in the 2025 election,” Fernandez said, quoting political observers.
Manay Gina, who joined the celebration of the ” Agew na Dagupan” at the city plaza, was among the honored guests that listened to the SOCA of Mayor Belen Fernandez.
In her speech, Fernandez cited the many significant projects of Congressman Toff de Venecia in Dagupan, including the upcoming Edades and Bernal Museum to be built in Pantal on a lot donated by the Fernandez family.
After her SOCA, Fernandez invited De Venecia up in the stage to have photos taken with her together with all the different officials and groups that attended the event.
She and Manay Gina dined together at Gloria Maris after the SOCA. (Leonardo Micua)
