COA gives Villasis-LGU unqualified opinion

By July 8, 2024Business

THE local government of Villasis received an “unqualified opinion” for 2023 from the Commission on Audit (COA), the highest opinion the agency can give.

In a letter by Omar Manaoat, supervising auditor of COA Regional Office 1, addressed to Mayor Nonato Abrenica dated June 24, 2024, he transmitted the Annual Audit Report on the results of the audit on the accounts and operations of Villasis for Calendar Year 2023.

The audit was conducted to ascertain the level of assurance that may be placed on management’s assertions on the financial statements; determine the propriety of transactions as well as the extent of compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations; recommend agency improvement opportunities; and determine the extent of implementation of prior year’s audit recommendations.

“The auditor rendered an unmodified opinion on the fairness of the presentation of the financial statements of the Municipality of Villasis, as it has been presented fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of the agency as at December 31, 2023, and its financial performance, cash flows, changes in net assets/equity, comparison of budget and actual amounts for the year then ended and its notes to financial statements, in accordance with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS),” Manaoat’s letter partly read.

Unmodified opinion (also referred to as unqualified opinion) is issued when the auditor concludes that the financial statements are prepared, in all material respects, in accordance with the applicable financial reporting framework. (Eva Visperas)
