Pangasinan still top rice producers in Region 1, 3rd in entire PH 

BASED on the data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Pangasinan remains the top rice producer in Region 1, and the third highest in the country.

Based on this statistics, the Pangasinan provincial government pledged to further launch more programs that can help farmers increase their rice production like the adoption of corporate farming where farmers learn to adopt modern technologies. (Rona Racca)

DA preparing for La Niña 

THE Department of Agriculture Field Office 1 is now preparing for the possible impact of La Niña phenomenon in Region 1. During the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas, DA FOI Executive Director Annie Bares called on farmers, especially those tilling lands in low-lying areas, to observe their rice planting schedules.

She also asked farmers to register with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation so that in case their crops are destroyed by calamity, they can obtain financial assistance which they can use in replanting their fields. Bares said Regon 1 has adequate food for the people during La Niña. (Rona Racca)

Changing weather affecting bangus production 

THE changing weather condition in Pangasinan has impacted on the production of bangus. This was revealed by aquaculture experts who said the hot weather condition from morning to noon and the sudden rain in the afternoon are bad for bangus.

When the weather is balm, there is only little amount of dissolved oxygen in the water.  They said that because of lesser dissolved oxygen in mornings, fish farmers are advised reduce their stocking density to prevent a fishkill. (Rona Racca)

DA hails coming of rains 

THE Department of Agriculture Field Office I hailed the onset of the rainy season after a long dry summer finally enabling farmers to start cultivating their farms and plant crops.

DA Executive Director Annie Bares called on rice farmers to plant a rice variety that would live and grow even it is submerged in water. Meanwhile, DA FO1 mobilized teams to respond to any request for help by farmers who have already started planting rice even with the minimal downpour in some areas of the province. (Joana de Vera)

Motorists urged to drive safety 

THE police again cautioned motorists to be extra careful when negotiating the highways following a vehicular accident in Mangatarem where four persons were killed when the driver of a vehicle that rammed their tricycle was found to be drunk.

The Land Transportation Office and the police have stepped up seminars for riders of motorcycles and drivers of tricycles on safety when traversing national highways and avoid accidents. It also called on riders and drivers to strictly observe rules on the highways and not to drive when under the influence of liquor to save lives. (Badz Agtalao)

PDEA shows barangay kaps how to earn drug-free status

THE Dagupan City government conducted a workshop in collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for barangay captains on the requirements that would facilitate the declaration of the city as drugs-free.

In coordination with the Dagupan City Police, the workshop showed how the barangay captains should comply with requirements to facilitate the processing of their barangays to finally become drug-free. (Joana de Vera)

41 dengue cases recorded in Dagupan

THE Dagupan  City Health Office reported 41 dengue cases from January to June 20 this year. According to City Health Officer Ophelia Rivera, the recorded 41 cases are still lower than the number of cases recorded for the same period last year.

Rivera cautioned the public to take  extra measures to be safe from dengue which, she added, is expected to spike because of the current rainy season. While misting operations are ongoing in known breeding places of mosquitoes, Rivera reminded barangay residents to adopt the 4 o’clock habit: Observe the ‘5s’ (Search and destroy breeding places of mosquitoes. Seek early consultation when feeling unwell. Self-protection by wearing long sleeve shirts. Stay hydrated. (Mathew Pacheco)

Pangasinan registers 500 dengue cases 

SOME 500 cases of dengue had been recorded in Pangasinan from January to June 20 this year by the Provincial Health Office.

It renewed its call to adopt preventive measures for them to be safe from dengue, particularly during the rainy season. Meanwhile, PHO reactivated its Municipal Dengue Task Forces to spearhead in the campaign to keep surroundings clean in order to keep dengue away. (Rona Racca)
