Bataoil hints of new political move
“THIS could be my last Independence Day as your Mayor… as your Mayor.”
The statement made by Lingayen Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil in his speech during the 126th Philippine Independence Day celebration of the town, has sparked rumors that he is gearing to reclaiming his old congressional post in 2025 elections.
Bataoil initially honored those who fought for the country’s freedom, comparing it to the liberty now enjoyed by the town, which he worked on to liberate as mayor of the capital town. He stated that Lingayen is now recognized for its accomplishments not only in Pangasinan but also throughout the country.
Like someone bidding farewell to those he had worked with, Bataoil said, “Sa aking paglisan maaring ipagpatuloy ng mga mailuluklok ng taumbayan. This could be my last Independence Day as your Mayor… as your Mayor.”
He urged everyone and his succesors to continue the work he has done, to care for the environment, and to monitor the barangays and people to understand their needs, all to make the town more progressive and to enjoy freedom.
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Malicdem praised Bataoil’s leadership, noting that despite coming from different political parties during the election, they worked together and allowed unity to prevail in serving the people. He added that this also symbolizes the town’s freedom. (Eva Visperas)
