PANGASINAN is included in the list of 34 provinces across the country that the National Nutrition Council (NNC) will start focusing on due to recorded cases of stunting, locally known as pagkabansot.

Kendall Pilgrim Gatan, OIC Regional Nutrition Program Officer of NNC, introduced the significance of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2023-2028 (PPAN) in collaboration with public and private sectors during a Broadcasters’ Forum on Friday, June 7.

Gatan said NNC RO1 research and data showed the malnutrition rate in the Ilocos Region decreased this year but Pangasinan recorded a 1.49% stunting case rate last year.

However, Basista, Mangatarem, Burgos and Urdaneta City received recognition for its efforts to combat malnutrition and are being considered as national contenders for the highest Nutrition Award.

The NNC conducts the Standard Evaluation Monitoring or Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation Protocol annually to acknowledge the towns and Local Government Units for their initiatives and cooperation with the PPAN. (Ahikam Pasion)
