Pangasinan PNP asked to prioritize anti-drug ops in 3 Dagupan barangays
THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) was asked to prioritize anti-drugs operations in Dagupan City’s three barangays: Pantal, Bonuan Binloc and Mayombo.
This was sought by Mayor Belen Fernandez during the 4th District Enhanced Managing Police Operations forum at the PPPO in Lingayen last week hosted by P/Colonel Jeff Fanged, police provincial director.
Fernandez said that while the Dagupan City Police led by P/Lt Colonel Brendon Palisoc, chief of the Dagupan City Police, is doing its best to arrest drug pushers and users, there’s a need to focus on the three barangays where rampant drug trafficking is reported.
Fernandez said several arrests made by the Dagupan police of known drug pushers and users in Dagupan shows the supply of illegal drugs continue to arrive and circulate in the city.
In line with the campaign against illegal drugs, the city mayor cited the establishment of the Dagupan Balay Silangan early this year where drug pushers and users are given up to three months of residential reformation and training.
Meanwhile, she thanked the Dagupan police and other police units for securing the past Dagupan City Festival where up to one million people converge at one time and during its entire duration.
She added that the Dagupan police was a big help in efforts of both Dagupan City government and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in removing shanties fronting the beach from land grabbers to make way for the construction of tourism-oriented government infrastructures.
She cited the harassment suffered by DPWH personnel during the start of the construction of the One-Bonuan Pavillion, funded by P25 million allocated by Senator Risa Hontiveros because the beach or foreshore land is not alienable and not disposable.
The harassment by alleged claimants of beach properties only stopped when Fernandez threatened to mobilize the entire Dagupan City Police to go against armed men and their patrons.
Fernandez said most of the land grabbers are not from Dagupan and are from other provinces and cities. (Leonardo Micua)
