Bangus Taekwondo Club shines in regional tilt
THE Dagupan Bangus Taekwondo Club displayed exceptional skills when it brought home five gold, five silver, and four bronze medals during the Region I Carlos Palanca Jr. Taekwondo Championships last June 8, 2024 at the Rosario Farmer’s Civic Center in Rosario, La Union.
Organized by the SMART/MVP Sports Foundation, the one-day tourney saw the participation of 250 taekwondo jins from Pangasinan and Ilocos Norte who competed in two events of poomsae (form) and kyorugi (sparring).
The young Dagupeno jins who earned podium finishes in different categories were Lionell Valdez (gold, Poomsae Grade School Blackbelt, silver, Kyorugi Grade School Blackbelt) Kiara Cantillano (gold, Poomsae Senior Bluebelt), Hans Castañeda (gold, Kyorugi Grade School Advance), Seam Aurelio (gold, Kyorugi Cadet Advance) Elijah Maramba (2 silver, Poomsae Cadet Brownbelt and Kyorugi Cadet Advance), Chester Esmas (silver, Poomsae Cadet Yellowbelt), Jandy Viari (gold, Kyorugi Cadet Advance, silver, Poomsae Cadet Redbelt), Ezekiel Josh Munar (bronze, Poomsae Cadet Bluebelt), Kenneth Paras (bronze, Poomsae Cadet Advance), Chloe Solomon (bronze, Cadet Blackbelt U42 kg), and Carlo Resurreccion (bronze, Kyorugi Cadet Blackbelt U48 kg).
The annual regional event served as tune-up for the winners in their respective categories who will qualify for the National Taekwondo Championship slated on July 27-28.
Training under the mentorship of head coach Carlo Jose Daroya, members of the Dagupan Bangus Taekwondo Club will see action in Luzon New Face Taekwondo Championship on June 15-16 in Baguio City. (Kim Gealogo)
