Mayor warns barangay kaps: Don’t use official seal
MANGALDAN BIKE RACE NOT ENDORSED BY LGU
IN a recent meeting of the League of Barangays (LnB) held last Monday June 10, Mangaldan Mayor Bonafe de Vera-Parayno warned barangay heads about illegal use of the Mangaldan municipal seal in unauthorized activities.
The warning stemmed from the holding of an unauthorized cycling event organized on Saturday, June 8, without the required permit from the Mayor’s office and unauthorized use of the municipal and provincial seals in the race’s promotional materials.
Parayno pointed to the ‘2nd Mejia Cup Mountain Bike Challenge ed Mangaldan 2024’ in Barangay Amansabina.
Mayor Bona reminded barangays that they must obtain special permits from her office before conducting any events in their areas of jurisdiction since the local government could be held accountable for incidents occurring during unauthorized events.
The mayor warned that the unauthorized use of the municipal seal for any event, particularly, for fund-raising events, is punishable under Article 177 of the Revised Penal Code.
Provincial Administrator Melicio Patague II also confirmed that the barangay did not seek permission or invite the provincial government to the cycling event, citing the unauthorized use of the provincial seal.
The PUNCH, as of writing, is trying to seek a comment from Vice Mayor Mark Stephen Mejia, and the organizers of the cycling event. (Ahikam Pasion)
