MAYOR Belen Fernandez enlightens the first of two batches of some 2,050 members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in Dagupan on the various Unliserbisyo programs of the city government as they await their turn to sign their individual withdrawal slips to receive their cash grants amounting from P2,700-5,700 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on May 15 at the City Plaza.

BONUAN BINLOC TO START HYDROPONIC GREENHOUSE PROJECT

A MODERN greenhouse with hydroponics system located in Sitio Korea, Barangay Bonuan Binloc was turned over by the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 1 to the city government of Dagupan on May 14 as part of the agency’s National Urban and PeriUrban Agriculture Program.

Mayor Belen Fernandez joined DA Agriculturist II David John Rondal, Bonuan Binloc Barangay Council led by Punong Barangay Wilmer Castañares, Sangguniang Kabataan Council, barangay nutrition scholars and City Agriculture Officer John Patrick Dizon during the activity which is also part of the #GoodbyeGutom Zero Hunger in Dagupan that promotes sustainable food sources to fight hunger.

The local chief executive advocated the hydroponics technique that uses a water-based mineral nutrient solution rather than soil to produce greater yield of vegetables and fruits within a smaller space of land in the different barangays.  (Dagupan CIO Photo)

MOTHER-THEMED ACTIVITIES FOR STUDENTS HELD AS CITY CELEBRATES MOTHER’S DAY

MAYOR Belen Fernandez reflected on the role of mothers in shaping the lives of their children with their unconditional and unwavering love and support during a Mother’s Day celebration spearheaded by the local Department of Education (DEPED) and the Dagupan local government on May 13 at the West Central Elementary School I.

Carrying the theme ‘Nanay ko, Buhay Ko, Mahal Ko’, the event featured card making activities, Slam Poetry Tiktok Contest, Bida si Nanay – Best Family Picture with Nanay, Nanay Ko ang Tatay – Father and Child Talent Competition and Hero Ko si Nanay – for Overseas Filipino Worker Mothers.

Students from elementary to senior high school participated in the activities assisted by principals and teachers as focal persons for each event.

Mayor Fernandez pondered on her wish for mother’s day this year which is for the establishment of the Maternal and Children’s Hospital in Barangay Pantal that shall serve as the best gift for all mothers in Dagupan. Recently, however, majority of the Sanggunaing Panlungsod members disapproved the establishment of the institution.

Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Rowena Banzon, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Officer-in-Charge Ana Liza Chan and Public Schools District Supervisor Leonarda Manansala also joined the event.
