Poet Orpilla is new KWF commissioner
PANGASINAN has earned another distinction in the Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino (KWF). A fellow kaluyagan, Melchor Orpilla, has been appointed as a commissioner.
Orpilla’s appointment was issued by the Office of the President, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin on April 05, 2024.
The letter, addressed to KWF Chairman Arthur P. Casanova defined Orpilla’s term as commissioner for Pangasinan language. His term expires on January 06, 2027.
As commissioner, Orpilla is tasked to promote the progress of the Filipino language and other indigenous languages – particularly Pangasinan.
Orpilla, a local historian, translator, song writer, and poet, is a native of Alaminos City. Born in January 06, 1971, Orpilla has kept his flame of love to Pangasinan language and heritage alive.
He published a book of poems translated and written in Pangasinan, titled “Laineng ed Casborran”.
His latest work is a translation of Katipunero Felipe Quintos’ war memoirs during the Revolution, titled Sipi’y Awaray Gelew (Revolucion Filipina).
Orpilla also served as the writer and researcher of Pangasinan Orthography and Grammar, that served as the basis of the formulation of the first Pangasinan Orthography under the KWF.
He is currently an instructor at the Pangasinan State University – Bayambang Campus. (Ahikam Pasion)
