Wado Ryu Dagupan, Ist runner-up in Kyodai Karate tourney
THE Wado Ryu Karatedo Dagupan was a stand-out in the 2nd Kyodai Karate Championships and took home the 1st Runner Up trophy with 15 gold, 5 silver, and 10 bronze medals last April 7, 2024 held at the Greenhills in San Juan, Metro Manila.
Members of the team who succeeded in the campaign were Shane Enrico Vasquez who captured three gold medals in cadet advance kata, open kata, advance kumite .61 kilograms; Govinda Mesina bagged two gold medals in novice kata and open kumite; Iñigo Abrahano earned two other gold medals in novice kata and open kumite, and Jelliene De Luna had her share of gold medals in the open kumite and kata.
Meanwhile, Jurre Soriano clinched one gold in kata and a silver in advance kumite, while Bea Bistudio got her own gold in cadet advance 48kg kumite, and silver in cadet advance kata. Elisha Ulanday captured one gold in cadet advance 53kg kumite and silver in cadet advance kata.
Samantha Lopez earned her gold in junior advance 53kg kumite, bronze in junior advance kata.
The other medalists are Nasrifa Pili (gold, advance cadet kata; bronze cadet kumite); Mohammad Macada-ag (gold, advance kata), Vishnujana Mesina (silver, senior kata; bronze senior 60kg kumite), Lester Polinada (silver, open kumite), Samuel Lopez (silver, cadet 52kg), Hailey Macalanda (three bronze medals in novice kata, open kata and kumite); Marco Ruegg (2 bronze medals in newbie kata and kumite) and Nathaniel Molina (2 bronze medals inopen and novice kumite).
Training under the mentorship of sensei Matthew Manantan, the Wado Ryu Dagupan karatekas are set to join upcoming regional and national competitions. (Kim Gealogo)
