Pangasinan PPO deploys 2,500 cops
FROM HOLY WEEK ONWARDS
THE observance of the Holy Week was generally peaceful, thanks to the presence and visibility of the 2,500 policemen deployed by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) throughout the province to ensure the safe observance of religious activities by devotees, visitors and tourists in key tourist destinations in the province throughout the summer period.
Oplan Sumvac was also launched to guard and for quick response to accidents and crime incidents.
P/Colonel Jeff Fanged, PPPO director, said the major police deployment are assigned to Manaoag town, San Fabian Beach, Bonuan Tondaligan, Hundred Islands National Park, and Tambobong Beach among others.
Fanged said more than one million tourists are expected to arrive in Pangasinan during the Holy Week and the entire ‘summer’ vacation, and 300,000 are expected to flock to the beaches of Western Pangasinan.
Fanged also ordered 1) Maximum deployment along TPLEX exits, particularly Binalonan leading to Manaoag. 2) Chiefs of police of Western towns to give particular attention to traffic management to avoid the same gridlock experienced in their towns. 3) Setting up of Assistance Hubs along highways, in coordination with the local government unit and other government and non-government agencies.
He said PPPO will remain on full alert to maintain peace and order in the province, and canceled all vacation leaves of personnel throughout the summer period.
The deployed personnel are advised to be on the alert to oversee safety of residents and visitors, particularly, prevent drowning incidents due to the lack of presence of lifeguards by strictly monitoring private pools and resorts in collaboration with the LGUs, and local disaster risk reduction and management offices.
Fanged also reminded residents who go on vacations not to post their travels on social media as this attract criminals to target unoccupied houses.
“Magpost na lang kayo kapag nakauwi na”, he said.
The house may also be entrusted to a neighbor or urge someone to watch over during their time out.
Fanged also urged the public not to wear or bring fanciful or expensive personal items during vacation to avoid being targets by criminals. (Ahikam Pasion)
