El Nino phenomenon still has little effect on bangus production

DESPITE the onset of the El Niño phenomenon affecting nearly the whole nation, the long dry spell has only little effect in the production of bangus in Dagupan City. As bangus is raised not only in fishponds but also in cages and pens in rivers, production of the commodity continues with little or no interruption at all. And bangus eats faster and grows faster when the temperature gets higher. During cold weather, bangus tends  to eat less and therefore grows slowly. What ails the bangus growers nowadays is the continuously soaring price of fish feeds.

Meanwhile, offshore fishermen reported that because of the rising temperature, they are now catching big quantity of galunggong and this resulted in drop of its price in the market. (Mark Espinoza)
