“A river of Tears” arts exhibit at SM Central Dagupan
AN arts exhibit entitled “A River of Tears” (Ilog na Lua) opened at the SM Center Dagupan on February 10 featuring the works of Pangasinan’s “Sarag Mi” artist group was attended by arts lovers from Dagupan, Pangasinan and Metro Manila.
The week-long arts exhibit, launched by 2nd District Rep. Christopher de Venecia and his mother, former Rep. Gina de Venecia, the SM Center Dagupan and Barangay Herrero-Perez East, was done in collaboration among AnakBanwa Creative Residency Project and Sarag Mi.
“A River of Tears” was based on “The Legend of Pantal River”, a ballad written by the late Atty. Regino Ravanzo Jr.. a former councilor of Dagupan City, who lived and grew up near the bank of the Pantal River.
Ravanzo’s ballad can be found in the book “The Story of Dagupan”, authored by the late Pangasinan historian Restituto Basa.
The arts pieces in the weeklong exhibit that will end on February 16 are the works of Eyechotic, Ces Writes, Julia Makulay, Nunki, Sheila Conde, Nics, Ginto, Jing Sinay-Ocampo, Tessa Martinez and Kathrina Ragadi, all Sarag Mi Artists and products of AnakBanwa Creative Residency Project.
Each verse in Ravanzo’s ballad was interpreted in different arts pieces by the Sarag Mi artists.
The “Legend of the Pantal River” by the late Atty. Ravanzo, is about the tale of the unrequited love between “Matoor” and ”Malamang”, two legendary figures in the history of Dagupan associated with today’s Pantal River.
Congressman de Venecia said the weeklong arts exhibit sought to promote the country’s creativity industry which the country looks up to as the industry of the future. (Leonardo Micua)
