Bridge linking Pangasinan-Tarlac closes to heavy vehicles
THE Batacan Bridge, linking the towns of Mangatarem, Pangasinan and San Clemente, Tarlac, has been temporarily closed to heavy vehicles since Wednesday, February 7.
This, after cracks along the bridge’s deck slab, and other signs of deterioration were found by authorities during an inspection.
All heavy trucks and buses are directed to take the Manila-North Road as an alternate route. Only light vehicles and motorcycles are allowed passage.
Mayor Ramil Ventenilla of Mangatarem town ordered a 24/7 checkpoint in the area to monitor incoming and outgoing vehicles.
Meanwhile, another bridge in Mangatarem, the Pampano Bridge, was also closed to all heavy vehicles after similar cracks were also observed.
The Pampano Bridge also serves as an alternate route from Bayambang to Mangatarem town. (Ahikam Pasion)
