DAILY GRIDLOCK IN DAGUPAN CITY

THE worsening gridlock in Dagupan City’s main thoroughfares have already resulted in many commuters complaining and choosing to walk to their respective destinations than ride jeepneys during rush hours while motorists lament an almost 30-minute delay in their trips around the city.

The difficult situation prompted Mayor Belen Fernandez to appeal to residents, motorists, commuters, visitors and businessmen to bear with the inconvenience brought about by the simultaneous work being rushed by DPWH’s contractors on the ongoing flood mitigation projects in the city.

“I urge you to be patient. Our ordeal will be over soon,” Fernandez assured while acknowledging that traffic bottlenecks cannot be avoided as contractors work at this time.

Gridlocks are regular occurrences on Arellano Street, A. B. Fernandez Avenue and Perez Boulevards and M.H. Del Pilar.

DPWH gave the contractors working on projects on Arellano Street and A.B. Fernandez Avenue and Perez’s Boulevard until March 31 this year to finish while deadline for the project on M.H. Del Pilar Street is April 15.

In a bid to help declog traffic bottlenecks, the city’s Public Order and Safety Office rerouted PUJs from the eastern barangays of Dagupan to enter the one-lane A.B. Fernandez Avenue, while PUJs from Calasiao are still allowed to enter A.B. Fernandez Avenue through Herrero Street.

Arellano Street is still a one-way traffic for vehicles going to Bonuan while Perez Boulevard is now a one-way traffic from Rizal St. to M.H. Del Pilar St. (Leonardo Micua)
