THE dairy farm operations in Laoac town earned P2 million in 2023 and the Guico administration sees an even better prospects for it.

With only 32 milk-producing carabaos and 40 milk-producing cows, the Laoac Dairy Farm (LDF) was already producing at least 7.5 liters of milk a day, and with new plans in place, its production will see higher levels once it becomes fully operational.

The construction of 2.1 hectares of Buffalo Barn is ongoing in Barangay Botigue in order to  accommodate more animals under the care of the LDF and transform it into breeding station.

The construction of a milk processing plant is already under study.

Farm Manager Nicanor Rovillos said the LDF, with an area of 3.7 hectares, now houses some 201 carabaos, including 34 calves, as well as 50 Holstein Jersey breeds from Australia.

Rovillos also said that the breed of carabao inhouse is being identified by the Philippine Carabao Center. Existing carabaos have 50% native bloodlines, and the other 50% have buffalo bloodlines.

The purpose of calves breeding is to upgrade their bloodline so that the bloodline of the offspring or calves will increase to 75% in order to have a Murrah Buffalo bloodline.

Given all these plans by the Guico administration, the Laoac Dairy Farm is expected to be a major dairy producer in the country. (PIMRO/ CCB , KYF)
