Hospitals raise red alert till January 1
THE Pangasinan Provincial Office (PHO), including its state-run hospitals, raised its alert status to ‘Red’ in anticipation of increase in number of patients requiring immediate treatment for injuries during the Christmas and New Year celebration.
Dr. Cielo Almoite, provincial health officer I, said hospitals are already on standby to receive and treat patients with firecracker injuries and he expects hospital staff will be the busiest on December 24 to 25, and December 30 to January 1.
Under a red alert status, all vacation leaves of healthcare workers are cancelled.
Data from the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Units-Health Emergency Management Staff (RESU-HEMS) shows that 38 injuries were recorded from December 21, 2020 to January 05, 2021, compared to 40 in 2020.
As of today, 75 were already treated for firecracker-related injuries.
Kwites or skyrocket, remains the most injurious firecracker, followed by improvised cannons or boga. (Ahikam Pasion)
