Bolinao’s Bantay Dagat members trained, deputized as fish wardens
TO help stop illegal fishing activities in Bolinao town, eleven members of the town’s Bantay Dagat members received training to prepare them to assume duties and responsibilities as fish wardens.
An initiative of the Bolinao local government, they were trained by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Region 1 (BFAR-1) personnel on Fishery Law Enforcement.
Their training included lectures, discussions, workshops and practicum on BFAR programs, projects and activities; values enhancement; role of deputy fish warden and grounds for the revocation of authority.
Among topics taught and discussed were Philippine Illegal, Unreported And Unregulated Fishing Index and Threat Assessment Tool; Detection of Illegally Caught Fish; Market Denial, Fish Landing Denial, and Mobile Checkpoint; and Fishery Law Enforcement Manual of Operations. (Eva Visperas)
