DILG cites Dagupan for anti-drug efforts
ANOTHER FEATHER ON THE CAP
THE Dagupan City government received another feather on its cap when it was presented the Anti-Drug Abuse Council Performance Award by the regional office of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The award, signed on November 24, 2023 by DILG Regional Director Jonathan Leusen Jr., was received by Councilor Michael Fernandez, his wife former Councilor Maybelyn Fernandez and Dagupan City Local Government Operations Officer Royoleta Rosario in behalf of Mayor Belen Fernandez who’s currently in the US.
This award cited Dagupan’s exemplary efforts in complementing the national government’s anti-legal drug campaign as evidenced by its high functional rating during the conduct of the 2022 ADAC (Anti-Drug Abuse Council) Performance Audit.
On the same occasion, DILG Region 1 cited Councilor Michael Fernandez as the region’s Most Outstanding Councilor in the independent/component cities category.
Dagupan was also recently adjudged the Most Competitive City in Region 1 by the Department of Trade and Industry regional office after topping the infrastructure index, placing second in economic dynamism and placing third in terms of resilience.
Mayor Fernandez, in a Facebook post from the United States where she and her delegation are just winding up their goodwill mission in Milpitas, California, admitted she was overjoyed when she learned that Dagupan City was conferred such an award by DILG.
She said the city government’s unrelenting efforts of Dagupan City in making all the communities of Dagupan and their residents safe from the tentacles of illegal drugs were not in vain.
Fernandez thanked the Dagupan City Anti-Drug Abuse Council with P/Lt. Colonel Brendon Palisoc, chief of police, as her co-chair, all the barangay officials and the people of Dagupan for their active support in eradicating illegal drugs in the city.
“We have more work to do, from prevention to rehabilitation. We will not stop till Dagupan City becomes more peaceful, progressive and has a stable future,” Fernandez said.
On prevention, Dagupan hosted the BIDA Fun Run on April 30 this year that was participated in by some 13,000 runners, among them was Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr.
Dagupan is also only among the 11 local government units in Pangasinan that established a Balay Silangan Reformation Center that offers one to three months residency rehabilitation to drug offenders who executed plea bargaining agreements with the courts. (Leonardo Micua)
