Commuters like riding on modernized jeepneys but..
COMMUTERS in Pangasinan and Dagupan City expressed mixed reactions to the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) amid the renewed emotional discussion on the issue as the deadline for consolidation of all traditional jeepneys on December 31, 2023 nears.
They noted that more new modernized jeepneys are on the road to-and-fro various towns in the province that provide comfort to the commuting public, but many sympathize with the operators and drivers of single-owned traditional jeepneys that served them well who they know stand to lose their livelihood once their units are eventually phased.
Many commuters expressed relief that the drivers and operators of traditional jeepneys did not join last week’s nationwide strike launched by transport groups calling for a halt to PUVM. (Joana de Vera)
