PANGASINENSES Dave Soriano and Mark Reynoso achieved recognition on the global stage by securing the Good Award (2nd Place) in the Global IT Challenge (GITC) held in Dubai, UAE, on October 24-29, 2023.

Both Soriano and Reynoso, who represented the Philippine Team, received the Good Award (2nd Place) for their contributions in the e-Content/Video Making (Group Category) and e-Smart Car (Group Category), respectively. Their impressive performance garnered commendation from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

They competed against 481 participants from 18 countries in Asia and the Pacific.

Soriano, a Grade 12 student at the Alaminos City National High School (ACNHS) from the City of Alaminos, overcame underdeveloped arms to reach this achievement. Meanwhile, Reynoso, a Grade 12 student majoring in ICT at the Bayambang National High School (BNHS), overcame a left foot amputation.

Despite their physical disabilities, they earned recognition for the country and their province in the field of information technology with the support of Annabel T. Roque (PSWDO Head), Richelle Raguindin (PESO Head), and their coaches Rafael Carungay, Danny Cabusao, and Jodel Villasenor.

The Pangasinan IT Challenge held in June, initiated by PDAO Head Jennifer V. Garcia under the supervision of Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (PSWDO) Annabel Terrado Roque, aimed to bridge the digital divide and enhance the information and communication technology capabilities of young individuals with disabilities.

Before making their mark at the GITC, Soriano and Reynoso competed against 30 youths with disabilities representing 16 local government units and excelled in the 2023 National IT Challenge qualifying rounds held in Manila on June 26 and 27. (PangasinanPIO)
