Theft by minors on the rise in Calasiao

RESIDENTS of Calasiao are alarmed by reported increasing number of theft incidents in their town, particularly those involving minors. Official records from the Calasiao Police verify this trend.

The majority of the victims are vendors in the public market, whose stalls are illegally accessed during late hours of the night by unidentified individuals who create small openings on the roofs of the stalls. In response to this issue, local police, together with barangay officials and residents, have taken steps to enforce curfew hours for minors.

Parents of children apprehended for similar theft incidents in the past have been summoned. (Joana de Vera)

UdD studes affected by One-way Arellano street

STUDENTS from Universidad de Dagupan (UdD) are facing challenges due to the one-way traffic scheme on Arellano Street, as a result of ongoing projects by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

This construction forces students from the eastern and southern parts of the city to walk to school because of the one-way traffic rule on Arellano St. that prevents them from riding city jeepneys to school. (Joana de Vera)

Egg prices increase due to short supply

EGG prices in the markets of Dagupan City and in other towns have risen, due to short supply of the commodity. Vendors report that the lowest price for small-sized eggs ranges from P6 to P7, medium-sized eggs from P8 to P9, and larger eggs at P10 each.

The Philippine Egg Association Board has confirmed the price increase and anticipates further rises, particularly before Christmas when there is higher demand for eggs. The shortage is also attributed to poultry raisers discontinuing operations due to substantial financial losses resulting from the prohibitive cost of chicken feed and increased operational expenses in their poultry farms. Manaoag town to standardize tourism-related fees and charges

MAYOR Jeremy Agerico Rosario recently called candle vendors around the Minor Basilica of Manaoag to a dialogue following complaints of overpriced candles being sold to devotees, pilgrims, and tourists.

During the meeting, Rosario set standard prices for candles, religious items, souvenirs, pasalubong, and parking fees to ensure that visitors to Manaoag are no longer victimized by unscrupulous vendors, shop owners, and parking attendants.
