Guico admin gives P1.3M cash aid to OFWs, families
THE provincial government, through the Public Employment Services Office (PESO), already provided more than a million pesos in financial support to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the last nine months this year.
From January 2023 to September 30, 2023, over P1.3 million in financial assistance was extended to 323 distressed OFWs and their affected families to help them become self-reliant by starting their own small businesses.
In addition to the financial assistance, PESO conducted 30 pre-employment orientation seminars focusing on ‘Anti-Illegal Recruitment and Trafficking in Persons’ campaign and benefitted some 5,756 individuals, including students, teachers, local and overseas job seekers, OFWs and their families, municipal and barangay officials, and government employees.
Three capability building sessions on Migration and Development Programs were also held in towns and cities attended by 128 participants that included migrant desk officers (MDOs) and OFW Family Association presidents from different towns and cities.
The primary goal of these seminars, as reported by PESO Chief Richelle Raguindin, is to re-capacitate the MDOs and OFW family association presidents on the province’s migration and development program.
Governor Ramon Guico III reiterated his commitment to intensify programs and projects that will assist and protect the province’s OFWs. This urgency to support OFWs s became more significant in the wake of the untimely passing of an OFW from San Jacinto town in Pangasinan. (Eva Visperas)
