OFW families in Dagupan set to receive aid from OWWA
THE Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has announced that families of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Dagupan who were affected by past calamities will receive financial assistance.
OWWA Administrator Arnaldo Ignacio, along with Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Officer-in-Charge Undersecretary Leo Hans Cacdac, made this announcement during a visit to Mayor Belen Fernandez on October 14 in the latter’s office.
The financial assistance is expected to provide significant help to the families of OFWs from Dagupan whose homes were damaged, and their livelihoods were affected by widespread flooding in Dagupan due to previous typhoons hitting the city.
Joy Siapno, Public Employment Service Officer, noted that approximately 1,000 OFW families in Dagupan are eligible for this financial aid, based on the OWWA master list.
However, these families are required to obtain certification from the City Social Welfare and Development Office to confirm that they were indeed affected by past typhoons.
Siapno clarified that only the families of OFWs who are registered with OWWA are entitled to this financial assistance. To claim the assistance, the parents or closest relatives of OFWs must provide documentary proof of their relationship with the OWWA-registered OFW. In the case of minors, they should be accompanied by guardians who must present the children’s birth certificates.
All the submitted documents will be forwarded to the OWWA central office for processing, and the names of the financial beneficiaries will be announced at a later date. The financial assistance will be disbursed by the OWWA regional office with the assistance of the local Public Employment Service Office. (Leonardo Micua)
